TMI Coatings recently completed flooring work at Vicom in Chaska, MN. Vicom is a pie producing facility for Vicorp Restaurants, the owner and operator of Village Inn and Bakers Square Restaurants. Bakers Square is best known for their french silk pies.
Vicom was having problems with the floor in the Dough Room and a floor on their mezzanine. The floor was too slippery and there was a 400-500 sq. ft. portion of old concrete floor paint (several layers) that needed to be removed because it had been improperly mixed and installed by another contractor. Vicom needed a more aggressive non-slip finish to create a safer working environment for its employees.
TMI began by preparing the floor surface by vacuum steel shotblasting to remove the loose, disbonded flooring. Chipping hammers were used as well as hand-held electric grinders. The remaining floor, which was not removed, was roughened for a mechanical bond so the new flooring would adhere. Then we began repairing severly cracked and eroded areas to restore these areas to the surrounding plane. Finally, TMI CHEM-RESIST flooring system with aggregate fillers for a more aggressive non-slip finish was applied.
CHEM-RESIST flooring system consists of a low odor, 100% solids epoxy resin with aggregate fillers. Epoxy resin is applied and broadcasted with aggregate. Excess aggregate is vacuumed up or swept off. Then additional epoxy resin is applied for a final seal coat. CHEM-RESIST is tough and durable and suitable for industial use. This industrial floor coating contains an antimicrobial additive that inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungus and other microorganisms on the surface of the coating.
TMI’s crew began work on a Saturday and took four days to complete the installation. When asked about our work, Norm Manty, Maintenance Manager of Vicom replied, “Great Job!”
