TMI Coatings recently completed work on an open top steel tank that stores 30% phosphoric acid at 125 degrees F. The customer wanted the rubber lining removed and replaced with a fiberglass lining.
TMI began by removing the existing rubber lining with air chipping hammers and other tools. The interior of the tank was then sandblasted to prepare for the new fiberglass coating.
The crew applied a double layer of TMI FIBERLIFE consisting of a vinyl ester resin with fiberglass mat reinforcement to the tank interior. Resin is applied and mat is embedded into the wet resin. The process is then repeated for a heavy-duty, thick-film finish. FIBERLIFE has excellent chemical resistance to both acids and alkalis at room and elevated temperatures.
When the job was complete, the customer commented, “…want to thank the people at TMI for handling this problem. The crew that did the job was excellent. Again thanks.”
