A Midwest plating company contacted TMI Coatings recently to clean and paint the ceiling of their plant. Inside the plant are several open top tanks that contain the chemicals in which the parts are dipped. Fumes from the chemical tanks caused the paint on the ceiling to peel, flake and yellow. The chemical fumes had also caused severe corrosion of the steel deck.
TMI began by neutralizing the current ceiling paint and pressure washing to remove the flaking paint and chemical residue. All crew members were required to wear protective clothing, goggles and face and hand covering. Next, a rust-inhibitive epoxy primer was applied followed by a non-yellowing polyurethane top coat.
