An animal feed manufacturer was doing some facility updates and was trying to decide between dairy tile, which he currently has in the plant, and a seamless floor topping. The owners choose the cementitious urethane floor topping because of the low maintenance and high durability.

TMI Coatings began work just nine days after the brand new concrete floor was poured. TMI’s crew of four men started prepping the new concrete floor for the new coating. TMI mechanically abraded the floor for maximum coating adhesion. TMI installed our ¼” thick cementitious urethane floor topping, red in color, in only a few days to meet the owner’s schedule. This cementitious urethane coating excels in environments with constant washing and very hot water (steam). The seamless floor has excellent chemical resistance.

Later, when the owner was asked what he thought about the new floor topping the owner replied, “It looks great, we are happy with it!” The owner then asked the TMI Coatings, Inc. Sales Representative to look at other coating projects within the plant.

A car dealership hired TMI Coatings in May of 2007 to remove existing flooring material and install a new 1/8” thick chemical resistant epoxy flooring system.

TMI proceeded to remove existing layers of flooring to ensure new flooring adhesion. TMI used our PrepMaster with five rotating diamond heads to remove the old thick-film existing flooring. TMI then repaired all eroded areas along the trenches to restore them to the surrounding plane. TMI then installed 1/8” CHEM-RESIST double broadcast flooring system to the entire floor area. TMI completed this project over three different weekends to reduce shut down time of the service and drive-thru areas.

TMI’s salesman visited the site in October of 2011 and Mark Rosenthal, General Manager, said he was very happy with TMI’s workmanship and the way the floor has held up for this many years later. He said all the additional special attention during surface preparation was surely appreciated and they are very happy with the outcome. He also said it was money well spent.

TMI Coatings was contacted by a manufacturing facility in the upper Midwest that produces parts for hydraulics. This facility is very oily and dirty. The company is working on lean manufacturing and contacted TMI to coat the ceilings and floors. The ceiling was very oily and dirty due to the machining process. TMI hand cleaned/solvent wiped and dry ice blast to promote adhesion of the new coating material.

TMI then coated the floor area with a 1/8” thick CHEM-RESIST epoxy flooring system with very coarse aggregate for slip resistance for safety. TMI installed line striping along the walkways as well as the company logo. The company representative stated that they were very happy with TMI’s workmanship on both the floor and ceiling as well as reducing down time while the projects were being completed.

A Wisconsin manufacturer of food products was having problems with water running out of rooms and forming puddles in the center of their Clean Room. This excess water developed into a potential slipping hazard for employees.

TMI solved this problem by sloping floors toward existing drains making it easier to clean and drain efficiently. We then applied TMI CHEM-RESIST, a slip resistance finish to provide a safe, non-skid surface for employees. Dan O’Brian, Project Manager, said. “The floors are great; we are very pleased with them.”

Meyers Printing, a promotional products printer located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, had a very old and unattractive floor in the production area of their print shop. The vinyl tiles were outdated, worn and ugly. TMI removed the tiles and installed an epoxy floor coating to improve the aesthetics, as well as make floor much easier to clean.

Taking special care to make sure all drains were professionally covered and taped prior to applying the first coat, TMI prepared the flooring surface to ensure the proper adhesion of subsequent floor coatings and applied the TMI CHEM-RESIST flooring system. Wayne Niles, Meyers Supervisor, gave rave reviews and said, “The floor was the most beautiful floor I have ever seen.”

A casino in North Dakota was having problems with their hotel pool deck that became very slippery when wet. They also had carpeting in some areas around the pool that was continuously wet and musty. After the carpet was removed from the pool deck, TMI prepared the surfaces by mechanically abrading and applied CHEM-RESIST epoxy flooring system. Colored quartz aggregate was added to keep hotel guests from slipping when the pool deck is wet.

TMI also prepared and coated the pool with an epoxy coating and applied the casino logo to the bottom of the pool. The pool coating brightened up the area with a logo giving the casino a distinct look. TMI was able to meet the important criteria for the project which included a limited time for the pool and deck area to be shut down, but still being able to do quality work.

Our contact at the casino returned a service evaluation questionnaire that stated that TMI’s Superintendent and crew were great to work with and they knew what they were doing.

TMI Coatings recently completed floor restoration for a leading manufacturer of test contactors used for semiconductor production testing. The floors in their machine shop and manufacturing area had large cracks and divots needing repair. The customer wanted to have the floors repaired and coated to create a cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing floor for the people working in these areas.

Before awarding the floor job to TMI, the owner visited a TMI customer site. TMI has coated approximately 75,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing areas for a medical device manufacturer over the past five years. The visit provided an excellent sample of the quality of TMI’s floor work.

TMI began preparing the floor with our vacuum steel shotblaster to clean and roughen the floor to create an anchor pattern for maximum adhesion of the new coating. For the areas that were not accessible with the shotblaster, TMI used electric hand-held grinding disks. Robert Eckstein, the owner’s representative, commented that he was amazed at the amount of time and effort that TMI spent preparing the floor, especially around the machines with the hand-held grinders.

Once the floor had been cleaned and roughened, the crew began repairing divots and pot marks, routing out and filling cracks in the floor, and restoring all areas to the surrounding plane. The owner’s representative observed that the “filling process does wonders.” He noted that this was not a perfect floor to begin with so he was really pleased with the end results.

Finally, TMI installed CHEM-RESIST flooring system at approximately 1/8” thickness and incorporated aggregate fillers for a non-slip finish.

TMI Coatings recently installed cementitious urethane flooring at a fully automated, state-of-the-art frozen vegetable processing facility in Minnesota.

The existing epoxy flooring in the plant was peeling and flaking. The Operations Manager said that he didn’t think the epoxy flooring was the right material for the environment. They have cementitious urethane flooring in other areas of the plant and it was working well. Cementitious urethane flooring is commonly used in areas exposed to high temperatures. Additional benefits of this type of flooring include easy maintenance and superior chemical resistance.

To prepare the floor, we used hand-held grinders with vacuum attachments and vacuum steel shotblasted the floor. After the floor was prepared, the crew installed a 45-degree cant at the floor/wall juncture around the perimeter of the room, followed by the cementitious urethane flooring system at approximately ¼” thickness. This heavy-duty industrial floor topping is trowel applied and is resistant to impact, heat and thermal shock. Call TMI today to provide a competitive quote to refurbish your plant floor.

A Minnesota college was encountering water problems with water leaking into their building and flooding an electrical control room located in the basement. The water was penetrating through the concrete slab located next to the building and through the brick building wall.

The TMI Coatings team applied a traffic deck coating to the raised concrete platform, which gave the platform a waterproof seal. Aggregate was incorporated into the coating to create a non-slip surface for safety. Additionally, TMI caulked around the windows and window wells of the building and where the concrete platform and side of the building came together.

This solution eliminated leaking water and gave the college staff the peace of mind the electrical equipment would not become wet. See their review of the TMI team’s work on the evaluation card below.

TMI Coatings recently completed a project with stringent time requirements. The deadline of February 21 gave the team less than a week to complete a flooring project, which usually is not a problem. However, when prepping the floor, the TMI Superintendent discovered an area approximately 100 sq. ft. where the cap, which is the top portion of the concrete, was disbonding and eroding severely. With other contractors due to start on the 22nd, there was not time to pour a new floor.
As an immediate solution, the TMI Superintendent recommended using a material to fill the damaged areas. The fill product sets up fast and dries quickly. With the owner’s approval, the fill was completed and the TMI Coatings team was able to continue with the flooring project and complete it on schedule. The customer was pleased with the workmanship, safety, cleanliness of the site and his finished floor.
