TMI Coatings Solves a Flaking and Peeling Floor Problem

TMI Coatings recently installed cementitious urethane flooring at a fully automated, state-of-the-art frozen vegetable processing facility in Minnesota.

The existing epoxy flooring in the plant was peeling and flaking. The Operations Manager said that he didn’t think the epoxy flooring was the right material for the environment. They have cementitious urethane flooring in other areas of the plant and it was working well. Cementitious urethane flooring is commonly used in areas exposed to high temperatures. Additional benefits of this type of flooring include easy maintenance and superior chemical resistance.

To prepare the floor, we used hand-held grinders with vacuum attachments and vacuum steel shotblasted the floor. After the floor was prepared, the crew installed a 45-degree cant at the floor/wall juncture around the perimeter of the room, followed by the cementitious urethane flooring system at approximately ¼” thickness. Leaking Water into a Electrical Control Room Resolved by TMI Coatings

A Minnesota college was encountering water problems with water leaking into their building and flooding an electrical control room located in the basement. The water was penetrating through the concrete slab located next to the building and through the brick building wall.

The TMI Coatings team applied a traffic deck coating to the raised concrete platform, which gave the platform a waterproof seal. Aggregate was incorporated into the coating to create a non-slip surface for safety. Additionally, TMI caulked around the windows and window wells of the building and where the concrete platform and side of the building came together.

TMI Coatings Resolves Floor Erosion Problem

TMI Coatings recently completed a project with stringent time requirements. The deadline of February 21 gave the team less than a week to complete a flooring project, which usually is not a problem. However, when prepping the floor, the TMI Superintendent discovered an area approximately 100 sq. ft. where the cap, which is the top portion of the concrete, was disbonding and eroding severely. With other contractors due to start on the 22nd, there was not time to pour a new floor.

As an immediate solution, the TMI Superintendent recommended using a material to fill the damaged areas. The fill product sets up fast and dries quickly. With the owner’s approval, the fill was completed and the TMI Coatings team was able to continue with the flooring project and complete it on schedule. The customer was pleased with the workmanship, safety, cleanliness of the site and his finished floor.

Industrial Flooring

TMI Coatings has completed construction projects for the City of Plymouth, MN both at their fire station as well as at the highway department garage.

TMI was hired to repair hairline cracks in the fire station floor. TMI began by routing out the non-moving cracks to open them; after vacuuming clean, the cracks were then filled with an epoxy/aggregate mixture and then top coated with TMI CHEM-RESIST floor topping. The repair areas were completed in a neat and professional manner to blend with the existing floor.

Epoxy Floor Coating

TMI Coatings has completed more than 20 jobs for a leading computer and medical technology company located in the Midwest. We recently completed protective flooring work in five separate areas. In each area, hollow spots or deteriorated concrete was restored to the surrounding plane. Then a heavy-duty industrial epoxy floor coating was applied.

Protective Floor Coatings

A leading Midwest technology supplier to the medical industry contacted TMI Coatings recently to apply protective flooring in several areas at their facility. Some of the areas were carpeted and other areas were previously coated. The owner wanted to create a clean room environment as well as a more aesthetically pleasing work area for the employees.

Prior to TMI beginning work, the owner removed the carpet squares, mastic and vinyl molding. TMI used our vacuum steel shotblast unit and hand-held grinders with vacuum attachments to prepare the flooring surfaces to ensure that the new flooring would adhere. Severely cracked and eroded areas were restored to the surrounding plane.

TMI applied CHEM-RESIST flooring system consisting of a 100% solids, low odor epoxy resin with aggregate fillers. The finish texture was approved by the owner’s representative at the time of installation.
