TMI Coatings recently contracted with an energy company in Illinois to line a sulfuric acid containment area. The existing concrete was mushy and severely deteriorated from years of chemical saturation. TMI’s crew began by removing the existing coating and soft concrete. All surfaces were neutralized, abraded and restored prior to application of the new floor topping. TMI applied a cementitious urethane floor topping to the interior of the containment dike. This low odor, 100% solids cementitious urethane topping is trowel applied and designed to protect the concrete from chemical attacks, corrosion, impact and thermal shock. Repeated exposure to hot oil and steam will not cause pitting, cracking or crazing. Cementitious urethane toppings are seamless, durable and suitable for industrial use. Flooring can be non-skid for slip-resistance for safety.

After the steel bands around the stack were clean, a considerable amount of corrosion was revealed. The bands were primed with an epoxy rust-inhibitive primer for corrosion protection. An elastomeric top coat was then applied to the concrete/brick surfaces and the metal bands for a uniform appearance.

TMI Coatings was contracted to prepare and paint five grain bins including sides, roofs, handrails and ladders for an animal feed manufacturer. TMI primed all surfaces with a high quality epoxy primer with excellent rust inhibitive properties and then applied a top coat of a high quality acrylic coating. This two coat system offers good corrosion resistance provided by the epoxy primer and the acrylic top coat offers long lasting color and gloss retention.

While on site, TMI was awarded restoration of their worn logo. TMI primed the rusting areas with an epoxy primer and then coated the entire sign with a high quality acrylic polyurethane coating. TMI used this coating because of the excellent color and gloss retention it provides, keeping dark and bright colors from fading quickly.

When asked for feedback on our work, the location manager commented: TMI’s crew was nothing but great while they were here. We were able to continue our business without skipping a beat and the new logo looks great.

TMI Coatings completed exterior building repairs at 7-Sigma in Minneapolis several years ago and the owner was pleased with our work.

After pressure washing to remove the defective mortar and flaking existing paint, we used caulk and mortar to fill joints, holes, cracks and defects in the building. Tuckpointing was completed for all necessary joints using pneumatic grinders. Mortar was cut back 3/4″ deep, new mortar fill was added to be flush with the brick surface, then tooled and brushed to a neat finish. This was done before applying an elastomer waterproof coating in three different colors.

TMI also removed loose bricks and replaced with new bricks to match similarly to the existing bricks.

Elastomeric coatings outlast paint for building exteriors in the upper Midwest. The elastomer coating expands and contracts in changing temperatures. The coating is breathable yet resists wind driven rain. When properly applied, elastomeric coatings come with a 5 year waterproof warranty guaranteeing no peeling, chipping or flaking for years to come.

If you have a building in need of restoration or would like more information on elastomeric coatings, contact TMI at 651-452-6100 or visit our website at www.tmicoatings.com for a no obligation quote.

A Wisconsin manufacturer of heavy-duty, industrial paper products contacted TMI Coatings regarding the concrete ceiling of their wood drop chest. Due to the chemicals used in the chest, the concrete ceiling deteriorated and was in need of repair.

TMI removed the loose and delaminating existing concrete and cleaned the underside (ceiling) of the chest by sandblasting. The exposed rebar was primed to prevent further corrosion. A cementitious spray mortar was then applied to help rebuild the eroded areas of the ceiling. The manufacturing company was pleased with the repairs and restoration of the chest ceiling in such a difficult and corrosive environment.

Are you a business in downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul that is expecting lots of customers and patrons later this summer for the Republican Convention?

Since the Twin Cities will be in the national spotlight, it’s natural to want to look our best. Exterior building painting is one way to showcase your facility. As the summer progresses, contractors get busy with work that has been postponed over the winter months and waiting until June or July to get exterior building painting done may be difficult since contractors are busiest in the summer.

Why not contact us in April or May for work to be done this spring? That will not only ensure your painting is done on time, but there won’t be a rush at the last minute to get things done. Also, if budget dollars are allocated on a first come first served basis, getting the work done now will ensure that you still have funding for painting.

While people from around the country are visiting the Twin Cities, you may have an opportunity to provide customer tours of your facility. Safety walkways coated with a slip-resistant finish provide a good first impression for your visitors.
